Did you know that the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden owns hundreds of rare and historically significant works of botanic art? Since the Garden’s founding in 1926, paintings, drawings, prints and even sculptures have been added to our collection along with rare books, manuscripts and periodicals. A Celebration of California Wildflowers: Art from the Blaksley Library will offer visitors an opportunity to view several examples of botanical art from the SBBG Blaksley Library Special Collections featuring California native wildflowers.
Our long-range goal is to create a permanent exhibition room to display revolving shows of the collection. However, Garden fans will be able to see more of these works at two additional art exhibitions being held at The Huntington and at The Wildling Museum this spring!
- Opening March 9 and continuing through June 10, 2012 the Huntington in Pasadena will feature artworks from the SBBG Special Collections of Elisabeth Hallowell Saunders, Mary Hood and Henry Mockel in an exhibit titled When They Were Wild: Recapturing California’s Wildflower Heritage.
Join the Garden for a special field trip to view this exhibition on June 1st, 2013
- In August 2013, the Wildling Museum will open its new Solvang exhibition space with a show of prints and original watercolors and sculptures titled, Patrick O’Hara’s Art of California Natives: Selections from the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden.

Featured artists include: Elisabeth H. Saunders, Mary V. Hood, Henry R. Mockel & Jacqueline Broughton
