Annual Fund Giving
The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is a private, non-profit, research, conservation and education institution offering enriching experiences to the public.
Contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations are essential to support our core operations, and to build and maintain our outstanding collections and unique California native garden displays.
Go Native and give to the Garden's ANNUAL FUND today!
At this time of year, the Courtyard is filled with children gathering for guided tours and special classes. They learn everything from how oak trees, manzanita, and other native plants sustained Chumash tribes, to how king snakes play an important role in the Garden. According to seven year-old Ethan, a recent guest to the Garden from Adams Elementary School, “Native plants are GREAT!”
I could not agree more. Introducing Ethan and other children to the wonders of our natural environment—and the need to protect it—is just one of the ways the Garden works to fulfill its mission to foster the conservation of California native plants. Every day Santa Barbara residents and visitors of all ages look to the Garden as a destination of uncommon beauty. It is a source of inspiration for artists and an outdoor classroom for others.
At the same time, scientists and research institutions collaborate with the Garden because we specialize in the display and protection of plants from one of the most species-rich places on Earth. California is a biodiversity hotspot with over 5,600 native plant species, 40% of which are found nowhere else. The Garden’s conservation staff monitors and protects more than 400 rare plant species through our conservation seed bank and Herbarium (plant reference library).
Ethan’s passion to learn about his surroundings is contagious—gardens create community and ours is growing thanks to you and so many others. Garden visits are rising and so are memberships. Both are vital to our success, but only represent a fraction of the costs associated with maintaining the Garden each year. The rest comes from donors like you. Annual Fund contributions are a core source of income impacting all of the Garden’s work from cultivating our vibrant wildflower displays, to protecting California’s most endangered plant species.
JOIN THE ANNUAL FUND CHALLENGE!
This year, a generous donor is challenging Annual Fund donors and Garden friends who have never supported the Annual Fund to get more involved: Your year-end 2013 gift will be matched dollar for dollar if…
- You are increasing your Annual Fund gift amount, or…
- You are a new Annual Fund donor
Donations received before December 31, 2013 qualify for the match!
Please feel free to contact Nina Dunbar for additional information (805) 682-4726 ext. 151
As Ethan said, native plants are great—this year, please help grow the Garden with a gift that will go twice as far. Join our donor’s challenge today and make a difference in the Garden’s future.
Thank you for considering the Garden in your annual giving. If you have not visited recently, I invite you to take a fresh look at our displays and programs. Please visit our website at www.sbbg.org to preview what’s blooming, enroll in a class, participate in an ecological hike, or volunteer.
