Santa Barbara Botanic Garden Announces “Summer Art in the Garden” Installation
One-of-a-Kind Exhibit of California Landscapes and Native Plants in Stained Glass.

Santa Barbara, CA – Wednesday, May 09, 2012
The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden welcomes the installation of 10 original stained glass-on-glass works created by award-winning Santa Cruz-based artist Kathleen Crocetti. Three of the works will be greater than 10 feet across and the theme of the pieces are a mix of California landscapes and close-up views of California native plants – in harmony with the Garden’s native plant mission.
Ms. Crocetti’s installations, a combination of art and community building, distill complex social issues into visual metaphors. Her process often allows individuals to participate in creating art on a small scale. The many parts created are combined into work that stands alone with aesthetic value and which evokes dialog around complex social issues among the art’s viewers. Her community murals, installations, and sculptures can be viewed at www.kathleencrocetti.com.
Ms. Crocetti has received several prestigious awards including the 2010 Gail Rich Award from the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County http://www.ccscc.org/index.php/local-arts/56-gail-rich-awards/96-gail-ri... and the 2011 California Art Educator of the Year by the California Arts Education Association http://www.caea-arteducation.org/professional-awards.
The “Summer Art in the Garden” installation will run for 90 days beginning on June 15th through Labor Day 2012. The Garden will host an exclusive art installation opening on June 15th featuring the critically-acclaimed, New York based ensemble, Rose & the Nightingale performing their program “Spirit of the Garden.” Meet all the artists, enjoy a special preview of the artwork, dine and listen to music in the Meadow in the soft evening sun. Tickets to the Opening Reception are $135 each and include plentiful hors d’oeuvres and wine. They can be purchased at www.sbbg.org or by calling 805-682-4726 ext. 102. Space is limited to just 80 people for this exclusive, intimate performance. Rose & the Nightingale will also perform two shows at the Center Stage Theater on Sunday, June 17 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. Tickets are $40 and available through the box office at 805-963-0408 or visit www.centerstagetheater.org. Proceeds from all three performances benefit the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden.
